Ghana Union-Hamburg! General Election Postponed

Afro News

The Embassy of the Republic of Ghana wishes to advise Ghanaians in Hamburg that the meeting scheduled for April 21st 2013 for the purpose of electing Executive Members of the Ghana Union has been postponed.

It may be recalled that at the 2010 meeting at which the current executive was elected, there was a lengthy debate on the causes of lack of interest of Ghanaians in the affairs of the Ghana Union, and the consensus was that the structure of the Union itself was the major stumbling block.

The meeting, therefore, decided that, in order to attract increased participation of Ghanaians, a Council, on which all Ghanaian Associations, Unions, Churches etc. should be represented, must be created in place of the Union.

Under the circumstances, it should be the priority of every Ghanaian in Hamburg to work towards the formation of the Council after which elections would be held.

Meanwhile, the Embassy wishes to urge the six (6)- member committee set up originally to prepare for the elections on Sunday 21't April to focus rather on the establishment of the Council and work assiduously towards that objective.

The Embassy wishes to apologize for any inconvenience caused by the postponement of the election.
